End of life care
End of life care involves treatment, care and support for people who are nearing the end of their life. It’s for people who are thought to be in the last year, months or days of life, but this timeframe can be difficult to predict. This means when the health care team determines that the disease or illness can no longer be controlled, medical treatment often stops e.g. in cancer patients. But the person’s care continues, with an emphasis on improving their quality of life and that of their loved ones, and making them comfortable for the remaining weeks or months.
It involves managing physical symptoms and getting emotional support for you and your family and friends.
